so what is bossa nova...?
Bossa nova was born out of the marriage of samba (the faster more exuberant percussion music of Brazil’s favelas) and the cool jazz of the late 50’s. The result is a warm intimate sound with a swinging latin beat. Almost everyone is familiar with “the Girl from Ipanema” by bossa guru Antonio Carlos Jobim (also known as Tom), but this is just the tip of a huge iceberg.
Brazil has one of the richest music traditions in the world and there
is a wealth of beautiful, groovy sensuous music to discover. Part of the

of the lesser known classics
to a wider audience.
Also, virtually any song could be turned into a bossa nova, just listen to Sergio Mendes’ renditions of the Beatles’ classics like “Fool on the Hill” or Burt Bacharachs’ “the Look of Love”.
The BPS’ repertoire also includes bossa renditions of jazz standards e.g. “Night & Day”, 70s funk classics e.g. “Everybody loves the Sunshine” as well as evergreens like ”Sunny” or “Call Me”.
